Are we done yet?

Am I the only one who is sick and tired of election bullshit? My irritation does not come from lack of concern: I am tired of hearing that my viewpoint is incorrect because I am not in line with the majority of this state.

Oddly enough, the following exchange with my mother cheered me up.

Me: I had an Obama t-shirt (short sleeve, gray t-shirt) around the house, I seem to have misplaced. Have you seen it?

Mum: I haven’t seen an Obama shirt, unless it’s the one I burned in the backyard yesterday?

Ma’am you are most definitely not the only one.

As someone who lives in another largely red state (NC), I get sick of hearing that I’m either naive, ignorant, or my personal fave only voting for Obama because I’m black.

Maybe it’s because I’m emotionally spent but that cheered me up as well.

  • foundindaho

My mother stayed with me last week and was pleasantly silent about a) My Obama t-shirt, b) My Obama window sign and c) My Obama bumper sticker. It must have damn near killed her, but she just rolled her eyes.

And Kendall, it’s idiotic someone would assume you’re only voting for Obama because he’s black. How limiting on the part of the person making that assumption.

if you’re in a red state, we need folks like you! so yay for you and hang in there!

  • Meggypoo

More than anything, I’m SICK of getting phone calls from every possible candidate every 30 minutes. I haven’t been answering the phone much, but the last guy that called, I told him that I was purposely not going to vote for the guy he was representing just because I was annoyed. He had no response. HA! Too bad I had already voted.

On a side note, GO RON PAUL! :)

That’s so funny. Your mom rox

I am so glad that you stand for something and are not afraid to show it! Your mom sounds sarcastically hilarious, I love it!

  • Ian

I read this just after watching Obama’s acceptance speech to the thousands in Chicago on CNN … Hey, hasn’t it all been worth it? Well done, you Americans!

  • Scott

I’m with you. I am tired of all the political commercials, phone calls and junk mail. I’m glad its over.

    Your mom is hilarious :)

re: your coworker stalking you, did he whip around 3 cubicles to catch up to you and yell something crude? You got it going on!

  • Red Flashlight

Totally. But they don’t bother calling me anymore. I must be blacklisted by the Republican party, and the Democratic party just thinks I’m easy. I’ll show them . . . someday . . . not this year, but someday . . .

    Kendall,
Ugh. What a bunch of idiotic dummies…AND! Hooray for Obama!!!

    foundindaho,
I’m a weensy bit annoyed that my parents still think they’re living in the 1950s.

    fumbling,
    Thank you!

    Meggypoo,
More than anything, I’m sick of not eating your delicious tomato soup!

    Aaron,
    Thanks, love!

    alexandrabrooke,
    Thank you!

    Ian,
Yes, I would say it has been worth it! Is this Ian who used to read my blog about a million years ago? Ex-Mormon from England??

    Scott,
Not only am I glad it’s over…I am ecstatic and hopeful!

    Red Flashlight,
Well, we’re good for another four years! ;)

  • lizgwiz

Today, I can laugh at that. If last night had gone differently, well…maybe not. Heh.

My (Republican) mother and I have already had the “why did you hate Palin so much” conversation this morning? I did not lack for ammunition on THAT one.

  • Burreetoe

I’m very glad its over. Well sort of over. I’m still holding out hope that prop 8 won’t pass. Your mom is so darn funny sometimes. I’m going to have to keep an eye out for flight deals to SLC so I can come experience it firsthand.

  • sideon

    Bittersweet today.

    Yeah for Obama.

But gays and lesbians got screwed without lube.

  • stefanie

I am really, really glad I was not living with my own parents through this election. You’re a stronger woman than I.

  • Ian

Pants, no not Ian, the ex Mormon from England. I’m a failed Catholic, communist and husband now living in poverty in Melbourne, Australia, who has lurked here for a long time because I think your blog is a hoot. Only ever left one other comment – which was that your blog’s portrayal of a 30-something reluctantly returning home and, in spite of herself and all the frustrations she encounters, re-bonding with her family, is the stuff of a great sitcom.
And Hollywood might be even more attracted now that a feel-good ending possibly looms with you finding a significant other to fall in love with. Mind you, I’m not sure that will make for quite such lively blog posts.
