Thank Fucking God it’s Friday

Yesterday was a Utah State holiday: Pioneer Day. Also known as the day that makes me throw up in my mouth.

Started the day off by going for a two hour hike with my sister and niece. Kicked my own ass! Managed to find a new bathing suit (TOTAL MIRACLE) and a cute new dress. Then went for a swim…which mainly consisted of wearing myself out by turning myself into a human raft for my almost-two-year-old niece. Didn’t eat enough food during the day and had a ROARING headache by the time we left the pool that lasted until this morning. Yuck.

Woke up, read some blogs, got SUPER pissed off when I realized that I had missed De La Soul performing at the free Twilight Concert Series last night…instead I took a handful of Advil, laid in bed wishing my massive headache away while wishing more headache on myself by watching a documentary show on PBS about the charlatan founder of the Mormon church.

    Headaches are the worst. :-(

This whole Pioneer Day is so bizarre to me and yet, I want a silly reason to have a Thursday off.

I like Pioneer Day. Crack is 1/2 off in Pioneer Park that day.

People would view Joseph Smith much differently if he had a rap career.

Sometimes if I swim without eating enough, I get the worst headache. But if I eat too much, cramp-city. My life’s goal has been to find the happy balance. I need a new goal. Perhaps that should be learning more about Pioneer Day?

    sizzle,
Silly reasons are great to have a Thursday off. Though I’d gladly trade yesterday for a sick day if I could find myself a (financially) reasonable way to live in California. :-)

    The Grunt,
    Word.

    Noelle,
I will definitely be eating better before my next swim! I’m not sure if Pioneer Day is a lofty enough goal…you may want to consider reading Under the Banner of Heaven over increasing your pioneer knowledge. (Hee!)

My hubby watched a documentary on the whole Mountain Meadows Massacre thing. I really love it when religious types go all nuts.
And I was thinking about emotional-eater JackJack yesterday when I was upset and stuffing myself on pancakes.

Well, now I have an excuse to go to Utah. Pioneer Day sounds way better than any Gay Pride Parade. I am sure hilarty ensues every year!

I just learned about Pioneer Day yesterday! I had no idea there were state-specific official holidays! Why can’t Minnesota have one??

Nevada has Nevada Day. However, that is also known as the Day Nevada Became a State (October 31), not the day Jeebus directed people to find Nevada.

    Hmph.

I enjoy pioneer day. It gives me a chance to sit back and reflect on the gospel and on our teachings of the lord jesus. Also it was just a good ol’ day with the fam doing some ice blocking ya know?

    J.,
I have an aunt who grew up near where the Mountain Meadows Massacre took place…what a trip! I was so disgusted when I learned about it that my brain almost snapped in half.

And I think about Jack Jack whenever I’m doing the same thing!

    thecoconutdiaries,
Dude. I would take my gays over a super packed in crowd of Mormons ANY DAY.

    Stefanie,
I think state specific holidays are especially awesome when they have their own PBS documentaries with people bearing their testimonies of the truthfulness of the gospel. I kid you not, on public television!

    lostinutah,
Too bad Jebus didn’t direct people to not drive like total and complete assholes. My newest addition to my driving routine is my middle finger.

    drop dead chris,
Tomorrow night I’m bringing my camera and I’m going to make you say, “Reflect on the gospel and on our teachings of the lord jesus.” after you’ve had a six-pack.

  • lostinutah

I agree with your testimony on the drivers. I find my middle finger comes up frequently the last 2 plus years. Glad I’m not the only one.

I wonder if Pioneer Day is anything like Patriot Day in Boston?
