Mom: What’s wrong?
Me: I went to Albertson’s, because they’re having this really super awesome sale on cereal. Ten boxes for ten dollars! And they were out of COOKIE CRISP! I am so mad.
(Laughter)
Mom (to Dad): Were you aware that we deprived our daughter of one of the joys of childhood by not allowing Cookie Crisp?
Dad: (More laughter) What do you mean you never had Cookie Crisp?
Me: I NEVER had Cookie Crisp! I never knew the delicious crunch of cookies in milk! I don’t know how I even managed to grow up without it!
Mom: They probably didn’t even have Cookie Crisp when you were a kid.
Me: No way! They totally had Cookie Crisp when I was a kid, Stephanie and her husband said so. Steph’s kids thought I was an alien when told them I’d never had Cookie Crisp. It’s like saying I’ve never had water.
Mom: What do you guys want for dinner? I’m making cornbread blueberry muffins right now, any dinner suggestions?
Me: DELICIOUS COOKIE CRISP!
Dad: (laughter)
Mom: Any reasonable suggestions?
Me: I think we should order pizza.
Mom: Or you’re going to die?
Me: Totally.
Mom (to Dad): Call it in!

i’ve never had cookie crisp. now i want some!
I’ve never had that cereal. I used to get Frosted Flakes as a treat. Yum!
I LOVED those commercials with the wizard when I was about ten or eleven, I think that’s when it came on the market, back when “Golden Crisp” was still called “Super Sugar Crisp.” And I’m older than you. I wanted Cookie Crisp soooo bad, but my Mom has this health food thing and the only cold cereals I was allowed were Cheerios and Wheat Chex, no sugar. So when I got out on my own, “Cap’n Crunch” for dinner!
I’m older than you are and they definitely had Cookie Crisp when I was little. I didn’t like it, though. I like Cheerios. I guess I’m boring.
OMG! I loved Cookie Crisp. I’m 33 and it was definitely around as a kid.
I AM RUNNING TO ALBERTSONS RIGHT NOW.
$10 for 10 boxes? For a mother of two cereal-mad boys this is like throwing chum at a white shark!!!
Cookie cookie cookie starts with C! I don’t think I’ve ever had cookie crisp either. The only cereal we were allowed to have with sugar was Life.
You are an Alien…actually,an alien/zombie hybrid.
I was only allowed to eat pieces of frayed rope soaked in milk.
If you let me touch your boobs I’ll make a run to the grocery store by me and try and score some cookies for you.
I think I had Cookie Crisp at a friend’s house once. It was divine.
I used to pick the marshmallows out of the Lucky Charms to piss off my brother. We always had all the good junk cereals. I don’t recall the Cookie Crisp though. I must rush out and try some.
My daughter loves Cookie Crisp. And now they have double chocolate or double something Cookie Crisp. I haven’t tasted it. I must be lame.
You’re about my age, right? If so, yes, they had Cookie Crisp when you were a kid. I didn’t get it very often either, but I do recall having it on occasion. Yum.
Cookie Crisp should have been named Kiddie Crack. If I could have liquified it and shot it directly into my veins I would have. Thankfully, my housemates forced an intervention on me in college and I quit it eventually. Every now and then, I’ll dip back into it. It’s good shit.
you made into adulthood with out cookie crisp and still speak to your parents?
I vividly remember spending the night at someone’s house and eating cookie crisp in the morning. we didn’t have such filth at my house.
“if you like cookies, you’ll love cookie crisp!”
i remember that commercial. what a clever slogan. i think it had some sort of robber or bandit or something stealing cookies. made no sense.
anyway, the advertising campaign worked on me and i think that is the only thing i ate from the time i was 8 til 16 and the only reason i quit was because my cheeks were raw and the roof of my mouth had turned into ground hamburger.
I’ve never heard of cookie crisp and I now strongly suspect that my childhood and adulthood has been deprived of one of the essential joys of life.
I left a comment here yesterday! Where did it go????
I said something about if you still haven’t had it, you should come over to my house because we have some in the pantry right now.
My mom fed us all kinds of crap when I was little and I used to beg for granola and fruit. I’m a little backwards I think.
That’s one of the best cereals. I loved that stuff and it was most certainly around when I was a kid and I’m older than you.
I love the banter in your family.
Cookie Crisps?!?! Holy cow I remember those commercials way back when and thinking that there, indeed, was a God.
