My road trip from California to Utah went well. I took some really exciting pictures that I will upload for a future post.
A few quick observations about Utah…
Utah drivers SUCK. The highways and roads are rampant with mad douchebaggery.
It’s been in the 80s in the evenings. I told my friend Lulu that walking upstairs late at night makes me feel like I’m suffocating. Lulu quickly pointed out that I more likely feel like I’m suffocating because I’m thirty-one and living with my parents.
My niece is so cute it makes my face hurt.
I talked to a cute guy on Saturday night at the roller derby who was married and originally from California. According to Sofi, that will be happening a lot.
Till soon,
Pants

a Mormon roller derby? I’m intrigued.
Ahhh so you made it huh? Well….welcome to Utah, for whatever it’s worth. Feels good to have another non-anti-ex-whatever-mormon among us. One day we’ll take over the world, I’m sure of it.
My new favourite term is “mad douchebaggery”. Can’t wait to see the pics!
Übermilf,
Me too! Though not as intrigued as I was by the referee’s holy cut-off’s…which I took a picture of. (So you have that to look forward to.)
Amberly,
I will do my best to help take over the world…though I can’t promise I won’t pack my car (with everything that will fit in it) and run back to California!
Airam,
I’m not sure that mad douchebaggery sufficiently describes the Utahrd drivers. Total a-holes!
I’ve also had the urges to pack my car and run [back] to California, even though I only learned of the wonderfulness of California just last year.
I’m new to reading your blogs and absolutely LOVE your writing. Perhaps it’s because I relate so much, but either way, it lets me know I’m not the only one and I love the feeling.
To avoid going through each and every blog from your archives and leaving a comment, I’ll say this:
I find we’re so much alike in a lot of things; family Scrabble, leaving the church, moving back in with parents (although it does end, trust me), going to church with Mom once in awhile, fighting the urge to flee to California, attempting to hide smoking from small children, my niece is also the cutest baby of all time, friendship with exes only does work out after years of anger and guilt, and ditto on the farting boyfriends.
I’m sure there’s more, I’ll keep you posted.
I have the urge to pack up my car and move to North Dakota. Don’t know why.
Oh Pants. More posts, more posts!
Glad to hear you made it to Utah okay.
you made it there! looking forward to hearing more about your adventures (?). love douchebaggery as well.
“mad douchebaggery”
Oh, how you warm my heart.
Glad you got there OK and hope that you don’t suffocate too much! Can’t wait to hear more stories!
I have to hear more about the roller derby. And about living at home again. Fun, isn’t it?
Ok maybe fun isn’t the right word.
Have you ever driven on Long Island? Mad douchebaggery and evil window decals to boot.
But glad you made it in one piece.
Living with the folks ain’t so bad – just think of them as 2 (much) older roommates!
I never knew roller derby made it to Utah!
Seriously. I have a theory about the aggressiveness of Utah drivers. It has much to do with the Mormon superiority complex combined with the conscious suppression of aggression in other areas of life in order to appear more spirichul and Christlike in front of their peers.
I could be wrong, of course.
did you take pictures of the mormon roller derby!?!?! can we see those?
my main understanding of Utah is via The Donny & Marie Show and that Angels in America gay thing. Oh! And, I used to listen/dance to the Utah Saints. …tho, I think that they might have been from the UK.
Anyway, you have my deep respect! I don’t know how you summon up the strength to live with the parentals — even for a short time.
I would just die.
We are leaving GayTown — but only for Oakland. sigh.
Seven in the evening here & still in the 90s. Hope you like Utah. Sounds like you’re all set w/Sofi’s advice!
The roller derby? That sounds very cool. I do not miss the douchy drivers in Utah. The plethora oof suburbans higging the roads were always referred to as the Mormon caravan.
I’m in NYC, where I spent the evening with childhood friends from Utah. Somehow our conversation always goes back to primary songs and fry sauce. Will we ever be able to shake our Utah heritage?
Have you met any brine shrimpers yet? Have I mentioned I’m glad you’re there?
Sofi: Don’t be glad she’s here. Don’t be glad ANY of us are here…you’re supposed to be pitying us for crying out loud!
Sister Mary Lisa: You’re not wrong……unfortunately, not wrong AT ALL. You should pity me too.
Poor, poor, me and Pants.
Roller Derby! I am so intrigued! Sorry I missed you befor eyou embarked on your road trip…I am a terrible friend. I am glad you are safe and sound in Utah…keep me informed of all of your goings-on.
You will manage…manage to transform this place forever!
I love the term “douchebaggery!” ^_^
I’m an ex-something-not-too-far-from-Mormon(ism). The ex part still feels really good.
I’m glad you made it to Utah alive. How was your weekend?
when will you be posting your pix from the trip?!?!!?!?
It is one of those perfect days here – warm/cool — full of sun.
I think SF misses you.
Pants – Go to Oktoberfest at Snowbird this weekend. Once you get past the smell of sauerkraut and polka music, it becomes a little slice of heaven.
Amberly,
Thanks! I had my first Scrabble BINGO! last week!
yournamehere,
Because you’re jealous of my pain?
sprizee,
I still don’t have internet access here – gyar! Hopefully that will change, and SOON!
brookem,
Stay tuned! Living here may force me to change the name of my blog to Douche, douche, BAGGERY!
ARM,
Thanks! Doing my best not to suffocate over here!
Scarlet Hip,
The roller derby was very interesting. I’m going to drink less next time so I’ll have more to show for my experience that a digital photo of a ref’s ass who was wearing completely ripped jean shorts.
Curly Glamour Girlie,
I think my living situation will improve when I’m working and in school…thus far, it’s been a bit stressful.
Sister Mary Lisa,
You hit the nail on the head.
matty,
I only took one choice photo…will post soon!
How’s Oakland?!
Jill,
Thank goodness for Sofi!
Sofi,
No brine shrimpers, yet. But I had dinner with some cousins in Sandy last week and they told me that some general authority lived very close to where we were…oh ferfuck, I can’t remember who it was!
Amberly,
Been doing my best to stay positive…kinda hard.
Birdie1975,
Hey you! Good to see you’re back online!
The Grunt,
I’m not so sure about that…we’ll see!
Candace,
It sure does!
egan,
Oh, it’s okay…how mare you and the new baby?
matty,
I hope to post my pics soon…must warn you they’re all taken from my car while I was driving on the highway.
SF DEFINITELY misses me!

Missed Oktoberfest this weekend…maybe next weekend?!
