My friend said I did not have to wear the corsage out if I did not want to. However, the year she received a birthday corsage was very memorable and included many questions about the corsage, followed by free drinks.
I was more than happy to wear the three perfect orchids on my wrist and there was no shortage in questions about it followed by happy responses and free drinks.
As a kid, I watched my older sister go on many dates. She was popular in high school and had a date to each of her formal dances, in addition to offers to attend formal dances at other schools. Seeing this made me excited for my sixteenth birthday, the magical Mormon approved dating age. I could not wait for the boys to line up for me with corsages color coordinated to my dress. However, that did not happen. I am not sure if it is because I was shy in high school or the fact that I attended three different high schools. Perhaps a bit of both? Whatever the reason, I never attended a formal school dance.
My best friend during my last two years of high school had similar formal dance demand to my older sister’s. I think it was the night of my senior prom that I broke down with my dad. I remember him telling me that my friend didn’t have much going on beyond the size of her boobs and that I wouldn’t be one of those people whose glory days were over by the time they were eighteen, that mine were just starting. Cheesy? Yes. Helpful? Absolutely.
So I find it only appropriate that my first corsage was worn on the night of my thirty-first birthday. I certainly cannot imagine having as much fun in a sweaty high school gym, as I did with my girlfriends last weekend.
In a strange twist of events…I have been invited to a 80s Prom party. I get to go to prom after all!

Happy belated birthday Pants. I had a very similar high school story as I didn’t attend any high school dances either. Call us late bloomers. I’m sure you’re one hell of a catch these days. Heck, I know you are. How old is your date for the 80’s Prom?

Tonight I hope to find the most perfectly ugly dress at the goodwill. Too bad I don’t have a hair crimper anymore.
All proof of me going to the prom was burned in a fire of my own making. If I could go back in time I’d stay home and watch reruns with my mother.
And those are my good thoughts about prom.
Pants – you didn’t miss anything. The problem with going to a lot of high school dances would be the pictures. I have a box of h.s. dance pictures which seems to follow me wherever I go. I can’t bring myself to throw them away, so I just keep hoping that they’ll end up getting “lost” while moving. There’s nothing more horrific than seeing myself with big, hot roller hair wearing a red taffeta gown and white satin pumps.
Hey, you should have your shoes dyed to match your Goodwill gown.
Who wants to go out with boys? I hate boys.
I love men, but I hate boys. Sometimes, males reach the age of “men” but are still boys. They suck even more than regular boys, because most boys turn into delicious, delicious men.
Did I mention I like men? I do.

Boys are stinky. Especially man boys, I know all about them.
I went to a couple formal dances, one stag, the other two with friends. Waste of time. Of course, I certainly didn’t get very into it, and never sported a tux for them. Lame.
My female friend and I went to Senior Prom with a couple kids from the special ed program she was aide in. I did attend ONE formal dance in all of high school.
I got to BYU and dated more in the first two weekends than I did in all of high school combined.
